How much will an international move cost?

I’m considering a move from Canada to New Zealand and was wondering how much (roughly) it will cost for me to ship the contents of my one bedroom apartment overseas. I have looked up movers but cant get an estimate without giving out a lot of personal information which at this point I would not like to do as I’m just trying to get an idea. Has anyone done something similar to this, or have an idea of the costs per pound or size of container? Thanks!
I’m asking for a rough estimate on how much it will cost to move my one bedroom apartment from Canada to New Zealand, NOT whether I should or not. For the amount of money I would have to spend to replace everything I own, it may very well be worth it. I’ve already been given an estimate of $2900 to ship my stuff over,which is less than what my couch cost me in the first place, and the feeling of being at home in a new country is priceless.

I moved from UK to Canada. It will cost a fortune to move your stuff, far more than it’s worth unless it is antique. Leave the furniture behind. Sell it before you move. Also check very carefully whether it is feasible to move electric stuff – not only may the plugs be different AND the power, but also the number of cycles/second, which can make a difference in motorised things like hairdriers. DVDs may not play either. CDs should be ok. So basically I’m suggesting you move your clothes, books, linens, personal items, maybe crockery if it’s really good stuff, but otherwise buy new when you get there. This may help if you get an estimator to come to your house.
